Mumbai, Jan 28: NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar on Wednesday stated that the plane crash that claimed the life of his nephew, Ajit Pawar, and four others was a tragic accident and urged against the politicization of the incident. The statement follows suggestions from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the nature of the crash.
The senior leader described the passing of Ajit Pawar as a profound shock for the state, noting that Maharashtra has lost an efficient and hardworking representative. Addressing the media, Pawar remarked that the loss remains irreparable and that certain events remain beyond human control.
Responding to allegations of foul play, Pawar noted that a specific stance had been floated from Kolkata suggesting political involvement in the tragedy. He directly said that there is no politics in it and requested that the public and political leaders refrain from bringing such narratives into the matter.
The clarification comes after Mamata Banerjee demanded a probe monitored by the Supreme Court into the crash. Banerjee had alleged that existing agencies were compromised and mentioned that only a judicial inquiry would provide a credible truth regarding the incident.
Pawar dismissed these concerns, reiterating that the evidence points to an accident. He noted that the focus should remain on the loss of the leader rather than speculative theories.
