Chandigarh, Feb 14: The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has intensified its crackdown on plastic pollution, issuing 1,849 challans across the state over the past month. The enforcement drive, conducted between December 24 and January 20, resulted in the imposition of ₹15,97,300 as environmental compensation on various violators.

A department spokesperson mentioned that the action was part of a broader effort to ensure strict implementation of the Plastic Waste Management Rules. All regional officers and field staff have been directed to enforce the 2016 regulations along with subsequent amendments and the 2022 Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) guidelines.

“Compliance is being ensured through regular inspections, online data verification, and a robust monitoring mechanism,” the spokesperson noted.

The board clarified that the segregation, collection, and scientific disposal of plastic waste are mandatory requirements under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. Field teams have been instructed to monitor both the processing and transportation of waste to prevent illegal dumping.

The department directly said that the extensive enforcement action targeted various entities for failing to adhere to the updated waste management protocols. Officials indicated that the monitoring would remain consistent to maintain environmental standards throughout the state.
