Amritsar, Feb 15: A major smuggling attempt has been foiled along the international border following a high-stakes joint operation by the BSF and the NCB’s Amritsar zonal unit. The mission led to the recovery of a significant quantity of contraband and specialized pistol parts, marking a blow to the illegal transit routes operating in the region.
The breakthrough came after four days of intensive tracking of a group of suspects operating near the border. During the intervening night of February 13 and 14, security teams moved in to intercept the consignment. The haul included 8.654 kg of heroin and a smaller quantity of opium, hidden alongside prohibited firearm components.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment was part of a cross-border smuggling network,” affirmed an NCB representative. The official noted that the inclusion of Glock pistol parts indicates the multifaceted nature of the smuggling operations currently being targeted by state and central agencies.
The suspects, identified as residents of Sahrsara and Chavinda villages, are now in custody and undergoing detailed questioning. Authorities stated that the focus of the investigation has shifted to uncovering the “forward and backward linkages” of this specific network. By analyzing the seized mobile devices, officials hope to dismantle the larger infrastructure supporting these illegal activities near the frontier.
