Gurugram, Feb 16: Seven residents of Chhanyasa village, including four schoolchildren, have died over the past two weeks due to a suspected outbreak of an infectious illness, leading to widespread concern in the district. While local villagers maintained the death toll has reached 12, the Health Department has officially confirmed seven fatalities as they await laboratory results to identify the pathogen.

Preliminary assessments by health officials stated that the symptoms align with hepatitis or jaundice. Medical teams have been stationed in the village to provide round-the-clock monitoring and sample collection. Residents asserted that the illness was initially mistaken for a common seasonal viral infection before the spike in fatalities occurred.

“The situation has caused immense fear, with many households reporting at least one sick family member,” a local panchayat member declared while discussing the crisis.

Palwal Deputy Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar Vashishta visited the affected area to oversee containment efforts and inspect local sanitation. The administration affirmed that medical histories and treatment records are being gathered from hospitals in Faridabad, Gurugram, and Nuh to pinpoint the exact cause of the deaths.

Special health camps are currently offering diagnostic tests and counseling to the community. Dr. Vashishta stated that the district is prioritizing the review of safe drinking water and hygiene standards to prevent further spread. He also cautioned residents against seeking help from unregistered practitioners, urging them to consult only qualified medical professionals.
