Chandigarh, Feb 18: The Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee is currently embroiled in a significant leadership crisis as President Jagdish Singh Jhinda failed to secure the necessary majority to convene a general house meeting for the second time. The inability to establish a quorum has led to a complete deadlock regarding the committee’s Rs 104 crore annual budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

Prominent opposition figures, including former ad-hoc presidents Baljit Singh Daduwal and Didar Singh Nalvi, gathered in Panchkula to coordinate a formal challenge to Jhinda’s leadership. “Jhinda’s failure to hold the house meeting due to lack of quorum shows that the majority of members have turned against his dictatorial style,” Daduwal stated. He affirmed that the president has lost the moral authority to lead the religious body and should step down immediately.

Jhinda has dismissed the accusations, maintaining that a small group of members is deliberately obstructing administrative proceedings to facilitate corrupt practices. He declared that his refusal to tolerate such behavior has led to the current friction. The president maintained that his supporters are close to achieving the required quorum and asserted that a new meeting would be scheduled shortly to finalize social and religious programs.

The conflict has already reached the Akal Takht, where Jhinda previously filed a complaint against Daduwal for allegedly embezzling funds and using abusive language. Conversely, Senior Vice-President Gurmeet Singh attributed the chaos to Jhinda’s autocratic management. Gurmeet Singh noted that the legitimacy of the proposed budget has been challenged before the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission due to the procedural failures.
