Amritsar, Feb 20: Students appearing for the Punjab School Education Board Class VIII science examination on Friday encountered a significant error in the Punjabi medium question paper. Reports from various examination centres across the state indicated that three questions, each carrying five marks, were entirely missing from one specific set of the paper.

A PSEB spokesperson stated that an emergency meeting has been called by the Chairman to address the oversight. The board official affirmed that immediate instructions were issued to all centre heads to rectify the situation by translating the missing sections from the English or Hindi versions of the paper for the affected students.

The error impacted a total of 15 marks in the 80-mark examination. Invigilators at several locations, including Amritsar, noted that the absence of these long-answer questions left many students unable to complete a substantial portion of their work initially.

“The paper is designed with a mix of short and long-form questions, but the Punjabi set lacked the three final five-mark questions,” an invigilator from Amritsar asserted. This led to immediate reports from teachers and centre heads who noticed the glaring omission during the first hour of the exam.

The spokesperson declared that the board is investigating how the printing error occurred. He maintained that the priority remains ensuring that no student is disadvantaged by the technical blunder.
