Chandigarh/Ropar, March 16: The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has officially revoked the suspension of Harish Sharma, Chief Engineer of the Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant in Ropar, on Monday. The decision comes more than four months after the management initially placed him under suspension. According to the official order, the board reviewed an agenda detailing the matter alongside a report from a specially formed committee before reaching a unanimous conclusion.

The board, which included Alok Shekhar, IAS Nominee Director, and the Special Secretary Finance, asserted that the revocation was appropriate after considering the committee’s findings and Sharma’s past service record. The order declared that the suspension of Er. Harish Kumar Sharma is hereby revoked with immediate effect. Officials maintained that the decision also took into account the fact that the officer is due to retire shortly.

Disciplinary action was originally initiated in November last year based on concerns regarding power generation costs. Authorities stated that the cost of generation at the Ropar and Goindwal Sahib plants appeared higher than other facilities in the state, despite the availability of a captive coal mine. However, the PSEB Engineers Association affirmed that the suspension was unjustified and lacked a formal charge sheet. The association maintained that comparing the fuel costs of the Ropar plant with modern private supercritical units was technically illogical.
