Chandigarh, April 19: The Punjab government is currently executing a large-scale infrastructure project involving the construction and repair of 45,000 kilometers of roads across the state. Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO stated on Saturday that the administration aims to finish this network expansion by June to strengthen the rural economy and improve connectivity for every village.

To ensure the longevity of these projects, the government has established a five-year accountability period for all new construction. Harbhajan Singh ETO affirmed that if any road sustains damage within five years of its completion, the responsible contractor will be required to handle all necessary repairs at their own expense.

The government has implemented strict rules regarding the quality and durability of roads, the Minister declared. He maintained that there will be no compromise on the standards of materials used in these projects.

Supervision of the work has been intensified through the Chief Minister Flying Squad and a dedicated Quality Control Cell. These units, along with departmental officials, are performing surprise inspections to verify that construction meets state requirements. The Minister noted that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has personally conducted on-site reviews of various projects to ensure transparency.

For the first time in Punjab, modern technology like Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) is being used, ETO asserted. He stated that 540 kilometers of link roads are currently being built using this method, which helps prevent waterlogging by keeping road levels consistent with adjacent residential areas.
