Chandigarh, April 21:Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has secured the expertise of Dutch hockey icon Floris Jan Bovelander to bolster the state’s sports ecosystem. During a high-level meeting in the Netherlands, the Chief Minister invited the Olympic gold medalist to Punjab to mentor young athletes and share technical insights as the state prepares to host the Hockey Asian Champions Trophy.

The collaboration marks a significant step in the administration’s efforts to modernize training and restore the state’s dominance in the national sport. The Chief Minister stated that Bovelander’s experience would be instrumental in sharpening the skills of local players before they face international competition.

“His remarkable journey and experience will greatly inspire our young players,” Bhagwant Singh Mann declared. He maintained that the Olympian has accepted the invitation and will engage directly with athletes to motivate them for the upcoming championship.

The Chief Minister noted that the state is reaching a historic milestone by hosting its first major international hockey tournament. He stated that while Punjab has produced more than 50 Olympic medalists and 10 national captains, it had previously lacked the infrastructure and opportunities to host events of this magnitude. He affirmed that the approval of a four-nation invitational tournament would further solidify Punjab’s status as a global hockey hub.
