Chandigarh, April 21: Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has issued a strong demand for a total ban on the upcoming television series titled “Lawrence of Punjab.” Warring stated that the production, which centers on gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, risks encouraging a culture of violence and misguiding the state’s youth.
Addressing the media, the Congress leader expressed deep concern over the series’ potential to turn a criminal figure into a subject of entertainment. He noted that Punjab’s identity is rooted in the spiritual legacy of Gurus and the sacrifices of martyrs like Bhagat Singh, and should not be associated with organized crime.
“This is not a work of art and entertainment, but a criminal act to instigate and abet youngsters towards the world of crime,” Warring declared.
The PCC president mentioned the personal and communal grief caused by the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala, a crime linked to the Bishnoi network. He maintained that both the central and state governments must be held accountable for allowing such a series to reach the screening stage. Warring affirmed that he will file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Punjab and Haryana High Court to prevent the broadcast, asserting that the series serves as an insult to “Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabiyat.”
