AMRITSAR, MAY 6 — Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday confirmed that an improvised explosive device (IED) was utilized in the blast that occurred near the Khasa Army Cantonment late Tuesday night. Following an inspection of the site, Yadav stated that the incident appears to be a calculated strike by ISI-backed elements intended to disturb the peace in the border state.
The DGP noted that the timing of the explosion coincides with the first anniversary of “Operation Sindoor,” suggesting a deliberate attempt by Pakistan-based forces to create a narrative of instability in Punjab. He affirmed that while no specific group has claimed responsibility, the nature of the device and the target point toward a broader proxy war being waged from across the border.
“We are in a state of proxy war with Pakistan,” DGP Yadav stated. “Being a border state, Punjab is at the forefront of this war unleashed against our country.” He added that investigators have obtained vital clues and a technical investigation is currently underway to identify the individuals behind the attack.
Addressing the earlier explosion near the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar, Yadav confirmed that an IED was also used in that instance. However, he maintained that a definitive link between the Amritsar and Jalandhar incidents has yet to be established. Security has been heightened across all vital installations and police establishments in the border belt as forensic teams continue to scan for evidence.
