Chandigarh, May 14: Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini has implemented a significant reduction in his official motorcade, cutting the number of vehicles in his convoy by half. The decision, announced on Wednesday, aims to minimize public expenditure and set a personal example of administrative restraint. Saini stated that only vehicles essential for security and immediate staff requirements will remain in the detail, moving away from the traditionally large convoys associated with the office.
In a move to advocate for environmental sustainability, the Chief Minister declared that he will perform his official duties without a government vehicle one day every week. He maintained that public servants must take the lead in adopting lifestyle changes that conserve fuel and protect the climate. “Those engaged in public service should set an example themselves,” Saini affirmed, noting that the initiative is intended to send a message of mindfulness regarding the use of state resources.
The Chief Minister also issued formal directives to his cabinet colleagues and top bureaucrats to follow suit. He instructed ministers and senior officials to curb the use of long convoys during their field visits to ensure that public money and energy are not wasted. Saini asserted that reducing the number of vehicles to a minimum during official tours is a necessary step toward more efficient governance.
Further expanding the campaign, the Chief Minister appealed to the general public to prioritize the use of trains and buses. He stated that the effort to save oil and reduce emissions should be a collective responsibility rather than a government-only mandate. Saini affirmed that by choosing public transport, every citizen becomes a partner in the state’s broader mission for resource conservation and environmental protection.
