GURDASPUR, May 17 — Security forces achieved a major breakthrough in regional counter-terrorism efforts on Sunday by arresting three individuals suspected of involvement in a hand grenade incident that occurred in the district last month.
The successful operation was executed through close tactical coordination between the Gurdaspur district police and the Counter Intelligence wing of the Punjab Police.
Investigating officers stated that the suspects were operating under the explicit instructions of an overseas handler. The initial incident took place on April 27 near Geeta Bhawan Road, where two individuals traveling on a motorcycle threw a military-grade hand grenade outside a commercial establishment. The explosive failed to detonate because the safety pin remained entirely intact, allowing disposal teams to safely recover the device.
The administrative heads noted that the breakthrough relied heavily on digital tracking and field investigations. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that the joint teams solved the case after carefully analyzing technical data, localized closed-circuit television recordings, and human intelligence sources. He further noted that during the subsequent searches, investigators discovered a second operational hand grenade concealed at the residence of one of the detained suspects.
The state executive has initiated formal legal proceedings under rigorous anti-terror legislation to dismantle the wider network. Authorities confirmed that a case has been registered at the City Police Station in Gurdaspur under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Explosive Substances Act. Security coordinators affirmed that active operations are continuing to trace all backward and forward linkages, including the identification of local logistics providers and the foreign-based handler driving the conspiracy.
