GORAKHPUR, AUGUST 19: Continuous monitoring and proactive flood-management measures across vulnerable districts in Uttar Pradesh remain in full force to ensure public safety. As part of comprehensive directives to maintain high alert, state agencies have deployed specialized teams, motorboats, and resources while conducting regular hands-on training to handle waterborne emergencies effectively.

The direct impact of this continuous state-level readiness was demonstrated during a recent incident at Ramghat along the Rapti River in Gorakhpur, where a fully prepared disaster relief unit successfully rescued an individual from deep waters.

While B Company of the 26th Battalion PAC was actively conducting scheduled flood relief training and operational drills at Ramghat, personnel spotted a youth, identified as Umesh Kumar of Sant Kabir Nagar, submerging in the river. Because the team was already on site with active equipment as part of their readiness mandate, they were able to launch an immediate response without loss of time.

Head Constable Mahatma Prasad led the unit on a motorboat, locating and pulling the youth from the river in a matter of minutes. The individual was promptly stabilized and handed over to local authorities, with officials confirming his condition returned to normal.

The successful operation featured Head Constable Mahatma Prasad alongside Constables Sanjay Kumar Gautam, Krishnachand Maurya, Ramesh Yadav, Manoj Shukla, Jitendra Kumar, Ravi Gautam, and Dhirendra Gond. Senior officers affirmed that the incident reflects the practical value of ongoing state flood preparations and the continuous vigilance maintained by stationed units.
