SUNAM, Sangrur, MAY 22 — A 62-year-old woman survived a life-threatening diabetic crisis after receiving emergency medical care funded through the Punjab government’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, hospital officials stated Thursday.

The patient, Bhur Kaur, who has managed diabetes and high blood pressure for over 15 years, collapsed into an unconscious state when her blood sugar levels unexpectedly spiked to 550 mg/dL. She was rushed to the Kashmiri Heart Care Centre in Sunam, where specialists immediately initiated intensive care protocols without administrative or financial delays.

“Bhur Kaur was brought in a critically unstable condition with Diabetic Ketoacidosis, severe infection, and acute respiratory failure,” stated Dr. Anshuman Phull, clinical cardiologist and managing director at the medical center. He noted that her vital organs were under immense duress due to severe dehydration, metabolic collapse, and early signs of sepsis.

Medical staff spent the first few hours stabilizing her respiratory system and correcting severe electrolyte imbalances. By the third day of intensive monitoring, intravenous insulin, and antibiotic treatments, Kaur’s infection markers dropped and she fully regained consciousness.

Hospital administrators observed that her enrollment in the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana played a decisive role in the outcome. The state-sponsored healthcare system allowed medical teams to skip typical payment clearances and immediately authorize intensive care unit services.

“In emergencies like this, delay can cost a life,” Dr. Phull asserted, adding that rapid intervention remains the main indicator of survival for unstable diabetic crises.

Family members recalled the sudden panic that followed the baseline health shift. Kaur’s daughter-in-law, Paramjeet, stated that the household was consumed by worry as they sought immediate aid. Now recovering, Kaur expressed her gratitude toward the medical team and the public insurance initiative, stating that the health card directly facilitated her survival.
