Dehradun, June 17: A 23-year-old medical aspirant allegedly died by suicide at her residence in the Chandrabani area of Dehradun on Tuesday morning. The student, identified as Riya, was reportedly experiencing severe emotional distress linked to upcoming national entrance examination retakes. Known for her exceptional academic record, she had scored 96.7 percent marks in her Class 12 examinations and subsequently became a college topper before focusing her efforts entirely on securing a medical seat.
Local emergency teams discovered a brief handwritten note left inside the bedroom. The text conveyed deep affection for her household alongside explicit messages of frustration regarding her ongoing academic pursuits. Patel Nagar police station personnel responded to the property immediately after family members managed to open the locked door when she failed to join them for breakfast.
Circle Officer Sadar Ankit Kandari asserted that the initial physical evaluation indicated the student had taken her own life inside the private quarters. “Yesterday morning, a tragic incident occurred,” the police official declared during an update on the investigation. “A report was received at the Patel Nagar police station that a 23-year-old girl named Riya committed suicide in Chandramani. In the investigation, it came to light that around 10.30 am, when her mother was calling her for breakfast, she didn’t open the door. When the door was opened, it was found that she had hanged herself.”
Close relatives and neighbors indicated that the household had maintained a completely standard daily routine prior to the incident, with no visible signs of anxiety or depression. The young woman had spent the previous evening participating in a family gathering before retiring to her room to study late into the night.
The police department maintained that extensive background checks have not revealed any external disputes or hostile factors. “Statements taken by the police from those around her stated that she was studying,” Circle Officer Ankit Kandari affirmed. “But there wasn’t any disturbing factor. Her parents said there were no such extreme behavioural changes that could be identified as a reason for taking such a drastic step.”
State authorities are currently analyzing the circumstances surrounding the incident to evaluate the impact of educational pressures on young competitors. Broad support initiatives are being discussed across the region to help young adults manage the rigorous demands of national qualifying tests.
