Lucknow, July 7: The Uttar Pradesh government is expanding its cow protection campaign into a major green energy initiative by planning the large-scale establishment of biogas plants with technical assistance from IIT Delhi. Under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state intends to develop one model village in every district to transform the rural economy through cow service and renewable energy. This strategic initiative has already commenced on the ground with the successful installation of 18 biogas plants in Palinda village, located in the Jhansi district.
A specialized team from the Biogas Development Training Centre at IIT Delhi, led by Professor Virendra Kumar Vijay alongside experts Ratnesh Tiwari, Akshay Srivastava, Chintan Dave, and Dr. Mangaram, is providing the required technical support. The academic team will assist local authorities in installing the plants, managing regular maintenance, and ensuring smooth operation. In Palinda, the initial phase aims to supply clean cooking fuel derived from cow dung directly to every household, allowing the entire area to transition into a certified natural farming village.
The extensive project is designed to deliver direct environmental and agricultural benefits to rural communities. Cow Service Commission Chairman Shyam Bihari Gupta declared that the establishment of these biogas plants will eventually eliminate the need for chemical fertilizers in the selected villages. He affirmed that farmers will instead receive high-quality organic manure, which will help ensure the availability of chemical-free food products in the commercial market.
The scaling up of this rural model across the state is positioned as a path toward comprehensive energy security and self-reliance. Mr. Gupta maintained that the campaign will provide a clear new direction for the rural economy while strengthening traditional cow welfare services. Preparations are currently underway to extend the framework to all remaining districts of Uttar Pradesh, ensuring that the sustainable model is adopted by villages statewide in the near future.
