Chandigarh, July 8 — Ten-year-old golfer Zorawar Singh Chahal secured the top spot at the IGU North Zone Feeder event held at the Kasauli Ex-Servicemen’s Professional Training Academy in Ambala. The fifth-standard student from Strawberry Fields High School maintained his position at the forefront of the regional junior circuit by capturing the KEPOTA title.
The young athlete represents the third generation of an illustrious sports family from Ferozepur. He is the son of hockey Olympian and former Indian national team captain Gagan Ajit Singh, who currently serves as the Senior Superintendent of Police in Fazilka.
Family members expressed immense pride in the young golfer’s dedication to his craft, noting that he remains deeply committed to carving out his own path in a new sport while honoring his roots. Relatives affirmed that the family’s deep-rooted athletic traditions continue to inspire his daily training and competitive spirit.
This latest victory adds to a growing list of accomplishments for the young golfer. His competitive record includes winning the Golf Experts tournament at Chandigarh Golf Club, the Shubhankar Sharma Junior Golf Event, and the SM Golf Club Tournament. Additionally, he secured a runner-up finish at the IGU Junior North Zone tournament in Patiala and has claimed the top rank in the US Kids Junior Championships four times.
The sporting tradition traces back to Zorawar’s grandfather, Ajit Singh, who represented India in international hockey alongside his brother, Harmik Singh, a former captain of the national squad. Observers close to the player stated that his steady progression through the junior ranks indicates a bright future on the national golfing firmament.
