Patiala, August 22: The family of Taranpreet Singh Sidhu, a twenty-nine-year-old Punjabi truck driver fatally shot in Canada, has called on Canadian law enforcement to expedite their investigation and apprehend those responsible for his murder.

Sidhu, who originally moved from Patiala to Canada on a study permit in 2016 and secured permanent residency six years later, was attacked on July 15 after completing a transport assignment.

According to family accounts, he parked his truck at a commercial yard following a trip from the United States when assailants confronted him and opened fire multiple times. Canadian police later recovered his body from a body of water in the Stoney Creek region near Fruitland Road, roughly sixty kilometers from where the initial assault took place.

Following the tragedy, Sidhu’s parents travelled to Canada to handle funeral arrangements before returning home to Patiala, where relatives and community members gathered for a memorial service on Saturday.

The grieving family confirmed they have formally engaged Hamilton Police detectives, urging authorities to identify the perpetrators and bring closure to the case without delay.

Relatives also highlighted broader safety anxieties, expressing deep concern over a rising frequency of violent targeted incidents involving Indian nationals residing in Canada and urging federal authorities to address the pattern as a national priority.
