NEW DELHI, AUGUST 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party passed a resolution during its national office bearers meeting on Saturday opposing the Congress Working Committee’s recent decision to limit the singing of Vande Mataram to two stanzas, maintaining that party resolutions cannot override national statutes passed by Parliament.
Party leadership declared that Vande Mataram stands as a foundational symbol of national consciousness and freedom, reaffirmed by the Constituent Assembly in 1950 and granted statutory parity with the National Anthem under 2026 parliamentary legislation. The BJP pledged to resist efforts to truncate the song for political appeasement or electoral considerations, asserting that the legislative authority of constitutional institutions supersedes historical party compromises dating back to 1937.
“We also resolve to remind the Congress that a resolution of its Working Committee cannot override the constitutional institutions or laws of the Republic of India,” BJP President Nitin Nabin stated. He maintained that the political compromise reached prior to Independence cannot take precedence over modern statutory protections enacted by Parliament.
To counter the truncation move, the ruling party announced plans to initiate a widespread awareness initiative aimed at educating younger citizens on the song’s historical importance and entire six-stanza composition.
“The same ‘Vande Mataram’ that echoed as the call for freedom in 1947 will resound as the supreme chant for a ‘Developed India @ 2047’ under the vision of PM Narendra Modi,” Nabin affirmed. He declared that citizens across every region will be reminded of the sacrifices associated with the national song.
