New Delhi, August 5: An Indian-flagged commercial vessel carrying oil from Saudi Arabia sank in the Red Sea near the western coast of Yemen, with all 13 Indian crew members and a Yemeni national successfully rescued by naval and coast guard teams. The vessel, MSV Faize Noore Oliya, capsized after experiencing an impact while transiting south of Al Hudaydah. Following a swift joint rescue operation conducted by regional maritime authorities, the rescued crew members were safely transported to the Port of Mokha for routine medical care, with no injuries or casualties reported.
The Ministry of External Affairs affirmed that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh maintains active coordination with Yemeni counterparts to facilitate the smooth return of the seafarers. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal declared that the administration took immediate steps to safeguard the crew. “All 14 seafarers have been safely rescued, and relevant maritime authorities are directing coordinated steps to ensure the safety of Indian seafarers operating in regional waters,” Minister Sonowal maintained. Central authorities reiterated their ongoing commitment to upholding freedom of navigation and protecting commercial shipping lanes in accordance with international maritime standards.
