Kapurthala, August 24: Four undertrial prisoners sustained minor injuries following a group clash inside Kapurthala Central Jail, after an argument broke out among inmates standing in a queue. Jail authorities intervened to quell the disturbance and subsequently shifted the injured to Kapurthala Civil Hospital for medical evaluation.
Among those injured were two brothers, identified as Bobby and Lucky, both residents of Buta Mandi in Jalandhar. Two inmates from the opposing group also received minor injuries during the physical scuffle.
Medical personnel at the Civil Hospital treated the undertrials for minor injuries and compiled formal medical reports. The documentation has since been forwarded to the local police station to facilitate a legal investigation into the altercation.
Internal prison records detail the circumstances behind the detention of the involved parties. Bobby stated that a criminal case was registered against him in 2025 and he was declared a proclaimed offender in that case, adding that he was later arrested by the police and sent to jail. His brother Lucky stated that he was arrested by the police last month in connection with a fight-related case, maintaining that as he was unable to secure bail, he was sent to jail.
Jail authorities confirmed that administrative reviews are underway to fix responsibility for the breach of order. Kapurthala Central Jail Assistant Superintendent Satpal Singh stated that he was outside the jail when the incident occurred and that the matter had come to his attention, affirming that an investigation was being conducted by senior officials and that appropriate action would follow based on the findings.
