Chandigarh: A state healthcare initiative has provided critical medical support to 560 patients suffering from severe diabetic foot complications, helping prevent potential limb loss across Punjab. Official statistics released by the State Health Agency confirm that 1.32 crore rupees was disbursed over the past eight months under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana to cover complex procedures, including surgical debridement, tissue removal, prolonged antibiotic therapy, and specialized wound management.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh affirmed that the primary objective of the health scheme is to deliver immediate, quality care without placing financial strain on vulnerable households. He maintained that timely clinical intervention remains crucial in preventing minor ulcers from progressing to full amputations, ensuring families receive assistance during critical medical emergencies.
Data indicates that surgical interventions formed the largest share of care, with 126 individuals receiving advanced surgical procedures amounting to 44.55 lakh rupees, alongside 123 patients treated through specialized medical management. Additional coverage encompassed advanced diagnostic imaging, blood transfusions, reconstructive skin grafting, and intensive care for severe secondary conditions such as diabetic ketoacidosis and sepsis.
Beneficiaries including Harcharan Singh, Raja, Veena, and Santokh Singh shared that prompt surgical and medical interventions halted deep-tissue infections, saving their feet and allowing full recovery. State health officials reiterated that removing financial barriers at hospital entry points continues to be the central pillar of Punjab’s public health welfare strategy.
