Chandigarh, SEPT 13: Ordering food through Zomato has become more expensive for customers selecting cash on delivery, following the platform’s introduction of a new “pay on delivery” fee. Listed separately in the bill summary, the additional charge generally begins at Rs 5 per order, though figures between Rs 7 and Rs 20 have been reported depending on the order details.
Industry estimates indicate that with daily volume reaching 23 to 25 lakh orders, even small per-order levies could significantly alter revenue projections over time. Platform fees, which started at Rs 2 across leading services in April 2023, have gradually adjusted upward to Rs 14.99 plus applicable taxes.
Consumers utilizing digital payment methods such as UPI, net banking, or debit and credit cards remain exempt from this specific fee. The state of alternative delivery applications remains unchanged for now, as competitors have not introduced an equivalent cash handling charge.
