Chandigarh, Oct 9: The Punjab government formally appointed IPS officer Gaurav Yadav to lead the state police force, securing his tenure as Director General of Police for a guaranteed two-year duration. Issued under the authority of the Governor through the Department of Home Affairs, the official notification reflects the culmination of a selection procedure managed in alignment with national guidelines. Senior officials confirmed that the decision brings stability to the top executive tier of state law enforcement.
The administration selected the senior official from a short list of three eligible candidates vetted by the Union Public Service Commission earlier this year. The selection panel also included senior officers Dr Sharad Satya Chauhan and Harpreet Singh Sidhu as qualified candidates for the top post. State leadership affirmed that the minimum two-year service framework adheres directly to historic Supreme Court directives regarding police administration and structural reforms.
