Tarn Taran, Nov 2: Two brothers allegedly struggling with substance abuse were found dead inside their residence in Patti town, adding to concerns over suspected drug-related fatalities in the state.

The deceased were identified as Gurdeep Singh, 36, and Sona Singh, 28, residents of Patti and sons of Jagir Singh.

Family members stated that both brothers went to sleep in their room on Saturday night after allegedly consuming heroin and narcotic pills. Their mother, Surinder Kaur, and sister, Satwinder Kaur, discovered them unresponsive early Sunday morning when checking on the room.

Living in a single room on the premises of the block office at Taran Wala Government Elementary School for four years, the family lacks permanent housing. Gurdeep Singh is survived by three children, including a 12-year-old child living with the grandmother, while Sona Singh was unmarried.

Surinder Kaur and Satwinder Kaur appealed to local administrative authorities and civic organizations to assist with financial support and ensure continued education for the surviving children.
