Chandigarh, Nov 3: A Special CBI Court accepted the closure report submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Raxil fungicide case, granting relief to former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state officials involved in the 2010 decision regarding certified wheat seed treatment.
Special Judge Vijayant Sehgal affirmed that the investigation did not yield material sufficient to substantiate allegations of conspiracy, cheating, or unlawful pecuniary advantage. The court maintained that upon independent consideration, there was no ground to differ from the conclusion reached by the investigating officer.
The case originated following a reference by the state administration in 2015 based on issues highlighted by senior IAS officer Ashok Khemka. The agency subsequently registered an FIR in August 2015 against unidentified officials under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
With the court’s approval of the closure report, the proceedings conclude 11 years after the initial FIR without proceeding to trial.
