New Delhi, Nov 7: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday urged the Central government to provide clarity regarding the exact ethanol proportion present in petrol distributed nationwide, pointing to testing figures collected from Karnataka.

Expressing concern over consumer impact, the Congress leader maintained that higher ethanol blending levels beyond prescribed limits could negatively affect engine efficiency, lead to reduced mileage, and increase vehicle maintenance expenses for vehicle owners.

According to statements shared by Gandhi on X, sample testing initiated across seven districts in Karnataka by the state administration revealed ethanol percentages exceeding the standard 20 percent threshold across multiple government and private retail outlets.

Gandhi further noted that test findings from accredited laboratories indicated levels above the 20 percent mark in several samples. He stated that fuel stations currently lack prominent labeling to display the exact ethanol percentage being dispensed to consumers.

Addressing the Union government, the leader asserted that clear disclosure and regulatory oversight are necessary to maintain public trust and safeguard vehicle performance across the country.
