Chandigarh, 10 January 2025: The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has intensified its crackdown on the sale and use of Chinese kite string, offering a cash reward of ₹25,000 for information leading to action against violators.
The hazardous synthetic string, often used during Makar Sankranti, is banned across the state due to its risks to human safety and the environment.
PPCB Chief Engineer R.K. Ratda urged residents to report any sale, storage, or use of the banned string via the toll-free number 1800-1802810. Informants’ identities will be kept confidential. Violators face fines ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹15 lakh.
Authorities have called on the public to avoid using synthetic threads and assist in enforcing the ban to ensure a safer festive season.
