New Delhi, 10 January 2025: Weeks after a wave of bomb hoaxes rattled dozens of Delhi schools, police have apprehended a Class 12 student for orchestrating the threats to evade his exams. The minor, accused of sending at least six bomb threat emails, had carefully crafted a plan to disrupt school schedules while diverting suspicion from his own institution.

Strategic Bomb Hoaxes Targeted Multiple Schools: The student targeted multiple schools, tagging them simultaneously in each email. “In one instance, he emailed 23 schools, claiming bombs had been planted,” said a police official.

The accused believed the hoaxes would lead to exam cancellations. Major schools, including DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar, were among the institutions receiving threatening emails.

The emails, which even included a demand for $30,000, sent schools into panic mode, activating bomb squads and deploying sniffer dogs.

Authorities conducted exhaustive searches but found nothing suspicious. Classes were disrupted, giving students unplanned holidays.

Widespread Alarm and Countermeasures: The hoaxes sparked fear among students and parents, with former education minister Manish Sisodia stating, “I have never seen such a state of fear in Delhi.” Over 40 schools faced threats in a single day last month, leaving the administration on high alert.

To address the growing concern, Delhi Police, in collaboration with the Education Department, held seminars for teachers and staff, providing training on managing such crises effectively.

The minor’s custody has provided relief to many, but police continue to investigate the full extent of his actions and their impact on the city’s education system.
