Mohali, 2 February 2025: A 31-year-old man was shot dead at an eating joint in Shivjot Enclave, Kharar, around 10:45 p.m. on Friday following an altercation that began over staring, police said.
The victim, identified as Gurpreet Singh, was a native of Bathinda and had been living in Kharar.
According to police, he worked as a gym trainer and also drove a cab in the tricity.
Singh and a friend had gone to the eatery when a confrontation broke out with a group of four men already present there.
The dispute escalated into a physical fight, during which Singh allegedly attacked one of the men with a sharp-edged weapon, leaving him with multiple injuries.
“In response, the other group fired two to three shots, injuring Gurpreet. He was rushed to the Kharar civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” a police officer said.
Singh’s father, grieving his loss, accused police of inaction despite CCTV footage being available.
“They shot my son and then attacked him with swords. I demand justice and immediate arrests,” he said.
Kharar DSP Karan Sandhu said police teams launched an investigation as soon as they received information about the shooting.
“We have vital clues on the accused and are conducting raids at their suspected hideouts. They will be arrested soon,” he said.
A murder case has been registered against unidentified persons.
