Chhattisgarh, 9 February 2025: In one of the biggest offensives against Left Wing extremism this year, security forces killed 31 Naxalites during an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Sunday, police said. Two security personnel lost their lives, while two others sustained injuries in the gunfight.
The encounter occurred in the morning within the dense forests of Indravati National Park when a joint team of security forces launched an anti-Naxalite operation, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P said.
“Thirty-one Naxalites have been killed in the encounter,” he stated, adding that a significant cache of weapons and explosives was seized from the site.
Among the security personnel who died, one was from the state police’s District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the other from the Special Task Force (STF). The two injured personnel, reported to be in stable condition, were being airlifted for advanced medical treatment, he said.
Reinforcement has been deployed to the area, and a search operation is ongoing, the official added.
With this latest operation, security forces have eliminated 81 Naxalites in Chhattisgarh this year, 65 of them in the Bastar division, which comprises seven districts, including Bijapur.
Last year, security forces neutralized 219 Naxalites in separate encounters across the state, police records show.
