Chandigarh, 25 February 2025 — Punjab Police raided 1,274 immigration firms across the state and registered 24 FIRs, arresting seven travel agents in a crackdown against illegal immigration networks.
according to reports, the operation, conducted on the directions of DGP Gaurav Yadav, took place across all 28 police districts from 11 a.m. till late evening Monday.
Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla, who oversaw the operation, said CPs and SSPs were instructed to take strict action against agents violating the Punjab Travel Professionals’ Regulation Act, 2012.
The drive follows recent deportations of Indians from the U.S. amid growing concerns over fraudulent travel promises.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by ADGP NRI Affairs Praveen Sinha, has been formed to probe complaints from deportees.
Shukla urged the public to verify travel agents’ credentials before handing over documents or money, underlining that only licensed agents under the 2012 Act should be trusted.
