Chandigarh, Sept 23: The Southwest Monsoon has completed its retreat from nearly all parts of Punjab and Haryana, leaving behind a notable seasonal rainfall deficit across both states. India Meteorological Department bulletins confirmed that cumulative seasonal rainfall recorded a 37 per cent deficiency in Punjab and a 26 per cent shortfall in Haryana.
Despite the ongoing retreat, meteorologists predicted a five-day wet spell starting September 25, driven by an upper air cyclonic circulation and an active western disturbance in the Himalayan belt. Light to moderate rainfall is expected across isolated pockets on September 25, 28, and 29, with broader coverage likely on September 26 and 27.
Weather officials affirmed that northwestern, eastern, and southwestern districts of Punjab, alongside major parts of Haryana, will experience showers. However, districts including Sirsa, Fatehabad, and Hisar are expected to remain largely unaffected as the withdrawal line continues its movement through the region.
