Chandigarh, Nov 2: The Aam Aadmi Party submitted a petition to Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan requesting the disqualification of two former party legislators who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

AAP Chief Whip in the Vidhan Sabha, Baljinder Kaur, presented the formal application appealing for proceedings against Samana MLA Chetan Singh Jauramajra and Sanaur MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra under the anti-defection provisions of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

Meanwhile, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan accepted the resignation tendered by Amritsar North MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh. While Jauramajra has not resigned his assembly seat, Pathanmajra submitted his resignation following the joining ceremony.

The parliamentary action follows the formal entry of the three legislators into the BJP at the party headquarters in New Delhi. They were welcomed into the party fold by BJP Punjab in-charge Satish Punia and state unit chief Kewal Singh Dhillon.

A determination on the disqualification petition now rests with the Assembly Speaker.
