Chandigarh, May 13: The Punjab Police department has transitioned to a tech-forward enforcement strategy with the deployment of the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), a system utilizing Artificial Intelligence to monitor and combat organized crime. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that the initiative gives the state force a distinct advantage in tracking suspects and managing public safety through a sophisticated surveillance grid.
The program recently expanded in Ludhiana, where 1,700 high-resolution cameras now monitor 259 locations across the industrial hub. Officials noted that the integration of traffic, wireless, and emergency units under one roof has effectively halved response times for Police Control Room (PCR) calls, dropping from 15 minutes to approximately seven minutes.
“Punjab Police has zero tolerance for organised crime and gangsters,” DGP Yadav affirmed. He maintained that while ground operations continue, the ICCC allows the force to work more efficiently and target the core of criminal activities with high-precision digital tools.
In Jalandhar, the system has already been credited with solving high-profile cases, including a gold robbery involving ₹1 crore and a grenade attack on a political leader’s residence. Investigators stated that the ICCC allowed for the simultaneous synchronization of 12 junction feeds to reconstruct getaway routes through narrow alleys. In the grenade case, the technology helped establish a visual trail that, combined with digital transaction monitoring, led to an arrest in Delhi.
Commissioner of Police (Jalandhar) Dhanpreet Randhawa declared that the ICCC functions as the “brain” of the city. She asserted that the “Single Pane of Glass” dashboard provides actionable intelligence by merging crime hotspots and traffic density into a unified interface. Randhawa maintained that the combination of human intelligence and automated algorithms ensures a full grip over troublemakers.
