NEW DELHI, OCT 28: The Narendra Modi-led NDA government has cleared speculation regarding the ministerial future of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri by nominating him for a Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh. The seat fell vacant following the resignation of Union Minister L Murugan.
By securing his seat in the Upper House, the 74-year-old leader retains his position in the Union Cabinet. The move ensures the BJP maintains its prominent Sikh face in the council of ministers as political parties gear up for crucial state assembly elections in Punjab early next year.
Questions surrounding Puri’s parliamentary future arose after the party did not re-nominate him from Uttar Pradesh during the recent biennial elections, where candidates were selected with a focus on local state leadership ahead of the 2027 UP Assembly polls. His fresh nomination from Madhya Pradesh settles those uncertainties while reinforcing the party’s strategy for Punjab.
