BJP’s Chugh Criticizes Congress for Politicizing Manmohan Singh’s Demise

Chandigarh, December 29 – BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh has accused the Gandhi family and the Congress party of exploiting the death of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for political gain.

In a scathing remark, Chugh condemned Congress leaders, particularly Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, for “using the late leader’s passing to further their political agenda, calling it a stark reflection of Congress’s opportunistic politics.”

Chugh pointed out that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the government decided to erect a memorial for Dr. Singh, who devoted his life to India’s development and economic growth.

“This decision was personally communicated by Home Minister Amit Shah to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge,” Chugh said. “However, instead of acknowledging this gesture, Congress chose to make baseless accusations, displaying once again their disregard for the significance of Dr. Singh’s contributions.”

Chugh further criticized Congress’s treatment of Dr. Singh during his tenure, recalling the period when Sonia Gandhi was placed above him as “Super PM,” and Rahul Gandhi publicly tore up an ordinance passed by Dr. Singh’s cabinet. “The Congress has consistently disrespected its own leaders and national figures who didn’t fit the Gandhi-Nehru mold,” Chugh added.

He stressed Congress’s failure to honor leaders such as Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lal Bahadur Shastri, P.V. Narasimha Rao, and Pranab Mukherjee, asserting that the Gandhi family has ignored their legacy.

Chugh specifically called attention to Congress’s neglect of Dr. Ambedkar, noting that while the Nehru-Gandhi family failed to pay their respects to him or create a memorial after his death, Prime Minister Modi had the Panchtirth—a series of five memorial sites dedicated to Dr. Ambedkar—renovated, including a memorial at the site of his passing in Delhi. “Modi’s efforts cost over ₹200 crores, while Congress was focused on vote-bank politics,” Chugh said.

Recalling an incident from 2004, Chugh reminded that Congress blocked the cremation of P.V. Narasimha Rao in Delhi, forcing it to occur in Hyderabad. “It wasn’t until Modi became Prime Minister that Rao was honored with a memorial in Delhi in 2015 and posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2024.”

“In stark contrast to Congress’s approach of honoring only their own, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the ‘Pradhanmantri Sangrahalay’ to honor all Indian Prime Ministers,” Chugh pointed out, accusing Congress of prioritizing memorials for their family members over national figures.

“Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and the entire Congress party must understand the real meaning of respect and step away from their disgraceful brand of politics,” Chugh added. .
