Kanauri Border, 29 December 2024 – Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s fast unto death entered its 34th day, raising serious concerns about his deteriorating health and survival as he continues to consume only water. The Supreme Court, which is actively hearing the matter, has expressed apprehension over his worsening condition.
During a press conference, farmer leaders Abhimanyu Kohar, Lakhwinder Singh Aulakh, and Kaka Singh Kotra highlighted Dallewal’s critical state, accusing the central government of maintaining a “stubborn attitude” towards the farmers’ demands. They emphasized the risks Dallewal is taking to draw attention to the farmers’ plight.
Expressing concern over the Punjab government’s role, the leaders criticized its inability to advocate effectively with the Centre, questioning whether the state administration has upheld the farmers’ position. The court’s instructions have sparked further unease, with speculation about potential interventions to remove Dallewal from his protest site.
The farmer leaders urged the public to rally for Dallewal’s safety, stating, “Our leader is risking his life for the cause, and we must ensure his protection.” Security around Dallewal has been tightened in response to these concerns.
