Chandigarh, 06 November 2024: The Election Commission of India has rescheduled the by-elections for four Punjab Assembly seats, moving the voting date from November 13 to November 20, 2024. This change provides political parties with additional time to campaign for the crucial by-elections.

The four seats up for election are Barnala, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabewal, and Giddarbaha. Political parties in Punjab are now finalizing strategies to strengthen their positions in these constituencies. Campaign visits by political leaders are expected to intensify in the coming days.

BJP local leaders are also actively participating in the upcoming elections, and BJP state in-charge Vijay Rupani, former Chief Minister of Gujarat, will visit Punjab today. Over the next three days, Rupani will tour four regions, holding meetings with local leaders to strategize and support the party’s election efforts.

The Election Commission explained that the initial date of November 13 posed challenges due to widespread social, cultural, and religious events across the region, which could potentially disrupt voter turnout.

As a result, the Commission decided to push the election date to November 20, ensuring greater voter participation and logistical smoothness during the election process.

Punjab’s Chief Election Officer, Sibin C, confirmed the date change, citing concerns over voter inconvenience and other logistical challenges that might arise on the original date.
