Chandigarh, Nov 7, 2024: Cancer cases are rapidly increasing in Haryana, with an alarming 2,916 new cases reported every month, totaling around 35,000 annually.

According to reports, the disease has become a growing concern for the state, with approximately 1,500 cancer-related deaths occurring each month, amounting to 18,000 fatalities per year.

Haryana’s Health Department has compiled data from patient screenings and treatment records, revealing that out of every 1 lakh individuals over the age of 30, 102 show symptoms of cancer.

The statistics reflect a concerning trend in the state, where cancer is affecting a large portion of the population.

Nationwide, the situation is similarly dire, with 15.5 lakh new cancer patients reported annually and 9 lakh deaths. The data shows the widespread nature of the disease, particularly in older populations.

Under the Nirogi Haryana campaign, individuals over 30 are being screened, with 69% of the target population already examined.

The state has screened 62 lakh people for oral cancer and 33 lakh women for breast cancer, identifying a higher incidence of these types of cancer in men and women, respectively.

Moreover, 12.5 lakh children have been examined.

Over the past eight years, both the number of cancer patients and deaths have escalated rapidly in the state. In 2013, 11,717 new cancer patients were reported, with 1,845 deaths.

By 2016, these figures had jumped to 16,180 patients and 3,668 deaths, showing a concerning upward trend in both diagnoses and fatalities.
