Chandigarh, Jan 4 — The Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a case of attempt to murder against the loco pilot of the Kalka-Delhi Shatabdi Express (Train No. 12006) after several passengers were injured at Chandigarh Railway Station on Sunday morning.
According to officials, the loco pilot allegedly started the train without permission or prior notice, causing chaos on the platform. “The sudden forward movement of the train led to passengers losing balance. Several women and elderly passengers fell and sustained injuries,” a GRP spokesperson said.
The incident occurred around 7 am, when many passengers were boarding the train. Reports indicate that the train stopped abruptly and then restarted, exacerbating the situation. Preliminary estimates suggest that 20 to 40 passengers were hurt in the accident.
Passengers reportedly sent complaints to the Railway Ministry via social media and X-platforms, prompting immediate action from authorities. Several passengers noted that the train had been stopping and starting frequently in a dangerous manner, creating a risk to life and property.
The railways said the incident is under investigation. “We are examining how the train moved prematurely and taking all steps to ensure passenger safety,” a railway official said.
