Chandigarh, July 11: A major accident was narrowly avoided in Chandigarh when an electric bus carrying approximately 15 commuters suddenly lost both of its rear tyres while moving along a busy route. The vehicle was operating its scheduled run from Ramdarbar toward Maloya when the mechanical failure occurred near the Sector 46-47 intersection.

“The bus was moving at a completely normal speed when we heard a loud, jarring noise and saw the wheels detach,” stated an eyewitness who was traveling behind the vehicle. “The driver managed the situation remarkably well by applying the brakes instantly and maintaining a straight line until the bus stopped.”

Transport authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew, thanks entirely to the rapid response of the operator behind the wheel. The sudden malfunction caused temporary panic inside the cabin before commuters were safely evacuated from the disabled vehicle.

This incident adds to a growing series of operational challenges involving the city’s newly inducted electric fleet. Previous months have seen multiple reports of unexpected technical faults, mechanical defects, and instances of vehicles destabilizing on active roadways.

Administration officials affirmed that a comprehensive inspection of the vehicle’s axle assembly is underway. Transport department representatives declared that maintenance protocols for all active electric buses are being reviewed to ensure passenger safety remains uncompromised.
