Chandigarh, July 23: The Punjab Governor and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, has officially launched the Chandigarh Cooperation Policy 2026, aimed at creating structured urban employment and improving essential municipal services. Tailored specifically for the union territory’s urban landscape, the framework emphasizes the setup of service-oriented cooperatives across key trade sectors.
Inaugurated alongside senior administrative leadership at the Secretariat, the policy seeks to organize skilled workers and technical institute graduates into recognized cooperative bodies.
“The policy gives special emphasis to service cooperatives engaged in electrical repairs, plumbing, painting, cleaning, solar installations, and minor renovation works,” an official administrative representative declared.
Authorities affirmed that these enterprise units will deliver reliable solutions to housing societies while providing dignified livelihoods for local youth, women, and marginalized sections.
The framework targets the formation of approximately 50 new cooperative societies by the end of 2027 through streamlined registration procedures, credit facilitation, and bulk procurement support. A dedicated Chandigarh Cooperative Development Authority will oversee implementation and offer structural guidance to emerging service ventures.
