Sangrur, Nov 4: The Congress party formally launched its campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections on Wednesday with the Insaaf Rally held in Sangrur. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi addressed the gathering alongside Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, and newly appointed Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh.

The event served as a major political platform for the party as it seeks to regain ground in the state, while also marking an important initial test for Pargat Singh following recent organizational adjustments in the state unit.

Addressing the rally, Rahul Gandhi criticized the performance of the state government, maintaining that the administration has failed to check the drug menace and related crimes.

He recalled raising concerns regarding substance abuse in Punjab years earlier and stated that the current situation reflects growing administrative challenges. He also referenced the tragic demise of singer Sidhu Moosewala, maintaining that security decisions taken prior to the incident required greater scrutiny and accountability from public authorities.

Continuing his address, the Leader of Opposition extended an open invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a public debate on national issues and charges directed at the party.
