Bathinda, Sept 21: A 19-year-old girl lost her life while a 20-year-old youth remains in critical condition after the two allegedly ingested a toxic substance behind the local bus stand on Sunday afternoon.
Members of the public noticed the duo lying unconscious in nearby bushes and promptly alerted law enforcement authorities. Emergency teams rushed both individuals to the Civil Hospital, where medical staff declared the girl, identified as Kusumjit Kaur, dead upon arrival.
The youth, identified as Krishan Singh, was initially admitted to AIIMS, Bathinda, before being transferred to a private medical facility for specialized treatment. Doctors maintained that his condition remains serious.
Providing details on the matter, Yadwinder Singh, SHO of the Kotwali police station, stated that law enforcement has initiated efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the event. Police officials confirmed that the two were acquainted, while noting that the girl’s family has declined to pursue legal action. Authorities affirmed that a detailed picture will emerge once the surviving youth’s statement is formally recorded by investigators.
