Chandigarh, 17 November 2024: Haryana has ordered the closure of schools up to Class 5 due to escalating pollution levels. The directive affects both government and private institutions, aiming to safeguard the health and safety of young students as air quality deteriorates across the region.
Primary schools in key districts, including Gurugram, Sonipat, Jhajjar, and Rohtak, will remain shut temporarily. Authorities will monitor Air Quality Index (AQI) levels closely in line with the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to assess the situation in Delhi and surrounding areas.
Several regions in Haryana, such as Bhiwani, Bahadurgarh, Sonipat, Jind, Rohtak, Kaithal, and Karnal, have reported severe pollution, placing them in the ‘worst’ category. Meanwhile, AQI levels in at least 10 cities have reached between 200 and 300, underscoring the pressing need for preventive measures.
