CHANDIGARH, July 29 — Public services across Punjab returned to full functionality on Tuesday following the resolution of strike actions by power distribution unions and healthcare personnel attached to Aam Aadmi Clinics. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced the breakthrough during a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, confirming that comprehensive negotiations successfully addressed primary employee demands.
The administrative compromise follows multi-hour joint sessions involving representatives from sixteen power sector unions along with senior state officials.
“Following intensive deliberations late at night with Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond and PSPCL CMD, followed by a marathon five-hour session chaired by me at the Patiala Head Office, a mutual consensus was reached with all 16 power sector unions,” Harpal Singh Cheema stated.
The Finance Minister affirmed that a dedicated financial committee has been established to review power sector worker compensation and operational demands, with a deadline to present its recommendations by August 15.
Parallel discussions with healthcare representatives led to an agreement regarding service recognition for clinic staff.
“The state government accepted the union’s primary demand to count their service experience when filling regular posts, while the remaining administrative demands remain under active consideration,” Harpal Singh Cheema declared.
Harpal Singh Cheema maintained that broader employment reforms are progressing, noting that an ordinance aimed at transitioning outsourced personnel into contractual status has been forwarded for executive approval.
