Chandigarh, Sept 17: The Punjab and Haryana High Court directed state authorities to ensure a complete halt to illegal mining activities across Jalandhar, Moga, and Ludhiana districts.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Rohit Kapoor declared that the administration must deploy all necessary measures to prevent unauthorized mineral extraction, adding that strict legal action should be taken against any violators.
The direction came after Executive Engineers from the Water Resources Department submitted district status reports in response to a public interest litigation filed by Sandeep Singh. Law officers maintained that enforcement agencies remain actively vigilant in these zones. The court granted the petitioner time to submit a response and scheduled the next hearing for October 8.
