Vadodara, June 17: Six passengers were killed and twenty others sustained serious injuries early Wednesday morning when a speeding luxury bus crashed into the rear of a parked truck on the Vadodara-Halol highway. The incident occurred around 4 am near Kotambi village in Gujarat as the bus was traveling from Rajasthan to Surat. Local police authorities confirmed that the impact of the collision was exceptionally severe, leaving the entire front section of the passenger vehicle completely crushed.
The stationary truck had been parked along the shoulder of the highway because the driver was inspecting his tire pressure at the time of the crash. Emergency medical personnel and local authorities arrived at the location shortly after the collision to transport the surviving passengers to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.
Vadodara Superintendent of Police Sushil Agrawal asserted that the intensity of the crash required additional specialized assistance to clear the wreckage. “The impact of the collision was severe, and the front portion of the bus was completely crushed,” the Superintendent of Police declared. “The injured were shifted to hospitals.”
A significant majority of the travelers on board the luxury bus were residents of Rajasthan. Personnel from the local Jarod police station in Vadodara rural arrived rapidly to supervise the initial rescue operations and manage highway traffic.
The Superintendent of Police maintained that the severe structural damage to the bus necessitated structural cutting equipment to free trapped individuals. “Considering the extent of damage to the bus, teams of the National Disaster Response Force were also called to assist in the rescue efforts,” the police official stated, adding that further investigation into the precise cause of the accident was actively under way.
Highway patrol officials are currently reviewing safety compliance on the stretch of road where the collision occurred to prevent future accidents involving roadside commercial vehicles.
